Just before the Jubilee year a tall Nigerian priest showed up in our parish. In his first sermon he mentioned how his Bishop back home had charged him with the task of building a seminary where literally nothing was in place. He then mentioned while he would be building it we would be the ones paying for it. This was followed by his trademark booming laugh. Everyone in the pews laughed with him but something told me this guy was serious. Time has proved this to be true and Fr. Godfrey, as he is known to us here at Immaculate Conception (Emeka back home), has now just about completed his beautiful seminary. It was officially dedicated in December 2001.
Over these last few years Fr. Godfrey, in addition to building and running Christ the King, has attended college, been made a US Citizen, become proficient in the latest technologies (which includes the creation of a computer lab and website), managed to ship among other things a school bus and a tractor back home as well as making two trips a year to the US to visit us in order to keep us informed about progress back in Nigeria. We also have an annual day of prayer where we at Immaculate Conception pray for the seminarians and they do the same for us. We started this in 2002 during the pastorship of Rev. Fr. John Durkin when the parish of Immaculate Conception adopted as it were, the Seminary of Christ the King in the diocese of Minna, Nigeria. We rejoiced the day that the first Christ the King 6 graduates were ordained in 2016. It was a great day for the diocese of Minna and for our tiny parish in the USA.
Anyone wishing to make donations to Christ the King can do so by sending funds to the Immaculate Conception parish office.
