The 9th grade class is commonly referred to as the 'Confirmation Class' because it is the second and final year of preparation before receiving this sacrament in our parish program. The course content for the year is a fairly in depth review of the Apostles' Creed. The text book used was developed by Mrs. Rosanna Hamm in the summer of 1999 at the request of Fr. Durkin. It has served us well over the years. In the event a student is unable to attend a class the Catechist will send an e-mail with information about what was covered. The following links can be used to help review any topic that may have been missed:
Requirements
One requirement of the class is to write a one page report on the Saint whose name they have chosen for Confirmation. The Saint can be the same as the one used at Baptism, which is actually preferred, or any Saint the student wishes. Since the report is due around All Saints day it is best to start thinking about what saint to chose as soon as the class begins.
In addition to the course material the students will continue with their ministries which they chose in 8th grade as well as assist with various parish activities. The idea is to introduce them to some of the adult aspects of parish life and emphasize the importance of being involved in the Corporal Works of Mercy. On the spiritual side of things their is an 8th and 9th grade retreat, weekly recitation of the Rosary and of course full participation in the parish sacramental life.
Each student must also select a Sponsor and complete an application prior to receiving confirmation. A Baptismal Certificate is needed for any child not baptized in the parish.
An interview with the pastor will also take place.
