We come to the last part of our Eucharistic Liturgy. Having feasted on the Eucharistic banquet provided by the Father, we have a concluding ritual: a blessing and a sending forth. This ritual concluding our time together, is not an ending, but an evangelical beginning. What is the purpose of the blessing? What are we asking God for?
We are then sent out for a purpose, for ministry, for mission. Do we think of the “dismissal” as our being sent forth? Or perhaps, do we think of this part of the Mass as telling us we can go home now? What steps can I take to become more conscious of being Christ’s body broken for others and his blood poured out for others? And then act on who I really am...
Through our active, conscious participation in the Eucharistic Liturgy, we have rehearsed the Paschal Mystery, so that it may resonate in our lives. How can I, we, make connections with the little death I undergo in my daily life with Jesus Christ dying as a criminal on the cross for love of us? For love of me?
